Built on the Same Detection Model
Both use MediaPipe, and both describe near-identical privacy handling. SitCoach states its frames are processed locally, never uploaded, stored, or sold, and that "your face never goes online — not to us, not to anyone"; even its own site analytics are cookieless and explicitly don’t receive camera data. SitSense’s browser surfaces work the same way — pose estimation runs client-side, and only numeric metrics, never video, ever reach a server.
Between these two specifically, privacy is not the differentiator. What differs is what each one does with the reading once it has it.
SitCoach Remembers Nothing. That’s the Point.
SitCoach’s privacy policy states plainly that nothing is saved, ever — no account, no history, no server-side record of anything. That is a genuine, deliberate design choice, and it is also a real limitation: close the tab and whatever it told you today is gone. There is no trend and nothing to compare against next week.
SitSense splits this in two rather than picking one side. The Chrome extension works like SitCoach — no account, real-time only, nothing saved — for anyone who wants exactly that. The web app is the opposite bet: a free account lets a companion you hatch remember your reef between sessions, and Pro opens every session you’ve ever logged rather than only the most recent one. Which of these you want depends on whether "nothing saved, ever" sounds like privacy to you, or like losing your own data.
SitCoach Reports Less, on Purpose
SitCoach doesn’t show degrees or named angles — a tab icon shifts between green, orange, and red, and one browser notification fires if you stay in the red long enough. By its own comparison post, it deliberately skips streaks and gamification.
SitSense’s web app goes the other way: seven angles, each named individually — neck angle, craniovertebral angle, trunk angle, shoulder slope, forward head position, head tilt, neck rotation — so when something’s off, you’re told which joint moved rather than just that something changed. The free extension, the more directly comparable no-account tool, reports six of those seven in real time — everything except trunk angle.
Questions people ask
- Is SitCoach really free with no account?
- Yes — its own privacy policy states no account, no signup, and nothing saved, ever. SitSense’s free Chrome extension matches that model exactly, with no account and no video upload; its web app is also free but uses a free account so your companion and reef can persist between sessions.
- Does SitCoach save my posture history?
- No. By its own privacy policy, nothing is saved — there is no history or trend to look back on once you close the tab. SitSense logs every session in the web app, and Pro unlocks your full history rather than only the most recent one.
- What does SitCoach actually measure?
- A slouch and screen-distance check against a baseline you set, shown as a green, orange, or red browser tab icon plus one notification if you stay out of posture. SitSense’s web app reports seven separately named angles instead of a status color; the free extension, its more directly comparable no-account tool, reports six of those seven.
- Is SitCoach’s webcam data private?
- Its privacy policy states frames are processed locally, never uploaded or stored, and that even its own site analytics don’t receive camera data. SitSense’s pose estimation also runs entirely in the browser and only ever sends numeric metrics, never video, to its server.
- Can I use both SitCoach and SitSense?
- There’s little reason to — they read the same webcam with the same underlying model. If you want zero account and zero history, SitSense’s free extension already does what SitCoach does. If you want your posture tracked over time, the SitSense web app is built for that instead.
